I'm a Cloud Engineer supporting Linux - and sometimes Windows - for a major hoster.

I spend my working day solving customers' IT problems - or helping customers solve them. The problems always relate to Internet-facing servers, and involve a range of different web server software, applications, mail servers and databases.

For good or bad, the chosen database is nearly always MySQL, which means I help identify and resolve performance problems, replication and 'freezing' issues.

Probably 25% of my time is spent analysing Xen server processes and logs to identify load issues and the other 25% is spent explaining the workings of different components of the Internet to customer techs who have come out of a more 'back-office' server environment.

Which just goes to show how much businesses are turning on to the Internet.

In the past, I used to be an IT journalist - see articles below - and before that, a business journalist.

Other than that, there's not much to say, but feel free to mail me if I can help - or you think my lunch-hour is too small for my legend.
